Weekly Unit Spotlight: Hemn

Due to writer's block, I have not produced current story posts in a while. I was thinking I might try to put out a story post today that would introduce Hemn, but I just don't think I have the ideas I want right now, so I will introduce Hemn the woodsman on a spotlight post! Hemn's description:
A man who guards nature from danger, Hemn is very protective of the environment, and cares more about animals than people. He is fairly dull, as he is uneducated, and he is impressed easily. Although many doubt his brains, he has brawn to spare, as he has lived off of the land alone for many years.
Hemn is an interesting case. He is the only fighter you get aside from Taren, and he serves a much different purpose than she does. You get him early in the game, but because he fulfills a distinct role of his own, he doesn't particularly compete with Taren, either. The upsides of using Hemn in combat are as follows:
  • His titanic mixed bulk: Hemn will not go down easy. His HP growth of 90% compliments his defense and resistance growths of 50%, making ORKO's on him almost impossible.
  • Good strength: Hemn's strength growth of 60% works well when you consider that he uses the strongest physical weapon in axes.
  • Natural Durability: Hemn's personal skill, Natural Durability, gives him an extra 10 HP and reduces all damage he takes by 3. This synergizes with his great defense and resistance.
  • Reclass option: Hemn's reclass option, pegasus knight, is a weird one, but it sort of fits him. Once he adjusts to using lances, he can tank hits and have a much easier time moving around the map and putting himself down to create effective choke points.
The downsides of using Hemn:
  • Poor stats outside of bulk and strength: Hemn's skill is really bad, and his speed is even worse. A lack of skill means that he will have some issues hitting because of his axe usage, and his pitiful speed means he will be doubled constantly.
  • Low base speed: While his strength is good and his defenses are great, he has a starting speed of 3, and with his speed growth being so poor, that stat isn't going anywhere any time soon.
  • Axe-lock: Like I mentioned before, Hemn's bad skill is not helpful, especially because in his base class, fighter, he has serious problems with accuracy.
Despite Hemn's flaws, he can find a place in your army as a wall. Unfortunately, characters like Schall fill the same niche with some significant reliability and utility as support, so Hemn usually becomes benched.
