Unit Spotlight: Taren

Taren is the assumed leader of the recruits, taking up the reins to gain kingdom protection over the villages of Lyrouche. Her character descripion:
The first-born triplet in her family, she is independent and strong, but crude and a bit stubborn. Her brothers are hard to fire up, but she certainly isn’t. She loves to eat, and cannot fight without her siblings at her side, for she fears being alone.
Taren is the first of two fighters you get, the other being Hemn. Taren and Hemn are very different, though, and you will find that both have varying niches to fill. Here are some of Taren's strengths:
  • Her raw power: Taren hits like a truck. She has the highest strength in the game at 80%, and her native weapon, axes, have naturally high might. There are very few enemies that can withstand her cannon arm.
  • Her good physical bulk: Taren has a fantastic HP cushion, with a growth of 85% in her base class, and her defense is substantial at 55%, even in the fighter class, which isn't big on general defenses.
  • Burning Passion: Taren's personal skill Burning Passion makes adjacent enemies take four additional points of damage in combat. It works regardless if Taren is the one fighting with said adjacent enemies.
  • Reclass: Taren enjoys the wyvern rider class as her alternate class tree. With this class, she can abuse her high strength, HP, and especially her defense growth, which is boosted by the wyvern rider class. It also uses axes, meaning she doesn't have to learn how to use a new weapon, making it an easy transition.
Now, like all units, she also has flaws:
  • Low resistance: At 25% resistance, she would prefer not taking magic damage. With her great HP, she can take the hit, but faster, high damage mages can take advantage of her low magic bulk and eliminate her.
  • Mediocre skill: At 45%, her skill is reasonable, but axes have low accuracy in comparison to other weapons, and her hit rates can be somewhat shaky.
  • Class constraints: The fighter class is a good fit for Taren, but she really could be any physical class and work it, and when you look at how much better she could be with more diverse skills and more accurate weaponry, it makes her base class appear lackluster.
In conclusion, Taren is a solid leader for the team. She has high growths for the most part, and can hold her own very well. However, her high growths make it questionable if her base class is best suited for her, and her low resistance makes her an easy mage target.
